Before the Assembly line of Ford in the Belgian city of Genk went down last car. The company closed after 50 years of continuous operation and will not be converted: its existence is deemed unprofitable. The production of the Mondeo, S-Max and Galaxy will be transferred to Spain, where labor was cheaper, and in Belgium will be without a job for more than 10 thousand people.
Actually this news is nothing new: about the upcoming closure of the plant in Genk became known in 2012. All this time, Ford was looking for employment options for more than 4,000 factory workers gathered during its existence of about 14 million vehicles. Those employees who agreed to the dismissal, received severance pay in the amount of 150 thousand euros. Together with staff, vendors, which will be dismissed in connection with the loss of demand for components, the number of unemployed is about 11 800 people.
Recall that after the global financial crisis of 2008-2009, the automotive industry is faced with the problem of overproduction, and the European factories began to close one by one. In 2010 stopped working the Opel factory in Antwerp, in 2011 Fiat after long and arduous negotiations with the trade unions managed to stop production in Sicily, in 2013 Peugeot Citroen fired more than 3,000 workers during the closure of the plant in the suburbs of Paris Aulnay. However, experts note that the problem is not yet solved, and to stop overstocking will have to close at least 10 of unprofitable enterprises in the Old World.
