Maldonado: FW34 is better suited to test new rubbers

Williams is the only team working on the tests in Jerez with last year's machine. According to Pastor Maldonado, it does not interfere with the preparation for the season - the team focused on working with rubber. . .
Q: Pastor, yesterday you worked mostly with tires. How do you evaluate the behavior of rubber?
Pastor Maldonado: New tires are a little different from last year and we need to deal with their behavior. Yesterday we worked Hard and Medium, still need to try a softer composition. Overall, I am satisfied, but 80 laps is not enough for a detailed analysis of rubber. It seems that the new tyres are very sensitive to temperature and operating conditions.
Question: the behavior of the tire is greatly changed when the temperature drops?
Pastor MaldonadoThis track can't judge it: except the Spa or on the same track do not have the same high-speed turns. However, I think that tires are better, they quickly warmed up and by this indicator exceed last year's rubber. On the other hand, the coupling properties deteriorate quickly, so work with rubber should be paid more attention.

We almost did not change anything in the car. We managed to run the whole program, so at the end of the session, the team tested several solutions for the new chassis. Until things work out.
Question: did You feel that the tires have become more efficient?
Pastor Maldonado: Hard to say. It all depends on the weight of the machine, conditions and style of driving, as well as passing if you are one quick circle or a long series. It all depends on the circumstances and approach, so the results are different. It is important to understand the differences between the formulations.
Question: have You already tested some aerodynamic elements of the new machine. Is it fair to say that the team is now working with the machine, consisting of parts FW34 and FW35?
Pastor Maldonado In essence, we work with last year's machine, but there are a few small changes. We test new and different options. In addition, the team reviews the work of several components - if they are ineffective, at least, we understand that it is not necessary to use them. It is important that even with the old machine we are working on the same plan as with the new one.
Question: are You worried that other teams are already working with the new machines?
Pastor Maldonado: No. We are very pleased with the FW35, but last year's machine is better suited for the planned here. We know the potential of the old chassis, we have a lot of comparative data. However, after the emergence of a new car we will have more clarity.
