All-new mid-size Jeep to use Fiat platform. The first Jeep to be created under Fiats ownership of the brand will be objavi at this months Detroit motor showu. The replacement for the Liberty may also oživimo the Cherokee nameplate, canned when the original Liberty was launched in 2001.
The new car uses a variation of Fiats Compact Wide platform, called Compact US Wide. Its been enlarged to be suitable for vehicles such as the new Jeep, and is capable of taking the four-wheel drive. Its already used in the Dodge Dart.
Although the new Jeep will use a front-drive biased set-up, it will come with four-wheel drive and should possess an element of off-road ability. In the US, expect a 3. 2-litre V6 petrol and a nine-speed automatic gearbox – in Europe, the nine-speed box will be available, but coupled to 1. 4 and 1. 8-litre turbocharged petrols and 1. 6 and 2. 0-litre diesels.
The Jeep will be built in the US, at the Toledo plant that makes the Liberty. Production is due to start early this summer.
