If you ever wanted to own a Jensen Interceptor, but missed out on the era when this swinging luxury coupe was brand new, consider this your second chance. The Jensen Interceptor R is a fresh take on the classic recipe of Italian design and American horsepower that made the original an icon of style and speed.

Built from 1966-1976, the original Interceptor clothed its snarling Chrysler engines under a distinctive body designed by Italys Vignale styling house. One of the most striking aspects of the Interceptor was its large glass tailgate, the gentle curves of which sharply contrasted with the bluff and business-like front end.

Oxfordshire-based Jensen International Automotive has now brought the Interceptor back to life, complete with modern mechanicals and all the style and swagger of the original. Power for the Interceptor R is provided by a Corvette-sourced 429 bhp 6. 2-liter V-8 engine, mated to either a 4-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission.

Refinements have focused on making the Jensen more livable (and reliable) for everyday driving. An AP braking system, independent rear suspension, and updates to the steering system help refine the Interceptor R for the stresses of modern driving. Each model is hand-built and takes 6 months to complete.

The only caveat: youll need an original Interceptor as the donor vehicle (and plenty of cash leftover for the mechanical updates). This kind of quality work doesnt come cheap. Jensen International Automotives previous re-do of the original Interceptor (called the Interceptor S) cost in excess of $120,000 – significantly more than even a concours quality original.

The Jensen Interceptor R will officially debut in London during the Salon Prive, a posh luxury-themed automotive show held on the lawns of Syon Estate from June 22-24.
