During the past few years leasing lost much of its popularity due to the recession. ALG, the company that forecasts the future residual value of vehicles — a key factor in determining the monthly leasing rate — says it expects a significant resurgence in the automobile leasing market in 2011. ALG predicts the luxury market will have a lease penetration rate of nearly 43 percent by 2012. Its worth noting that many manufacturers, such as Audi, say they want to keep leases, as opposed to outright or financed purchases, below 50 percent of their sales volume. The March/April edition of the ALG guide says the luxury brands with the highest residual values ranked from one to five are: 1. Land Rover 2. Infiniti 3. Acura 4. Audi 5. Lexus The mainstream brands with the highest residual values ranked from one to five are: 1. Mini 2. Subaru 3. Mazda 4. Honda 5. Hyundai As a result of the improved residual values over the past year, ALG says it expects Land Rover to see the biggest gain in leasing in 2011 in the luxury brand category. Meanwhile in the mainstream brand segment, ALG forecasts that Hyundai will realize the biggest gain in lease deals in the coming years. As the quality gap between brands is narrowing ALG also says the gap in residual values between brands continues to shrink. Just what youd expect. But, whod have guessed that two British companies — Land Rover and Mini — would currently lead the luxury and mainstream segments in residual values, respectively.
