James Bond, the fictional martini-sipping British secret agent, is getting back behind the wheel of a Bentley. In the new James Bond book, Carte Blanchebest-selling author Jeffrey Deaver has 007 saving the world – and undoubtedly making time for a few dalliances – in a new Bentley Continental GT Coupe.

Regarding the title of the book, Deaver says In the world of espionage, giving an agent carte blanche on a mission comes with an enormous amount of trust and konstantno tests both personal and professional judgment. Part of the nonstop suspense in the novel is the looming question of what is acceptable in matters of national and international security. Are there lines that even James Bond should not cross?

Some Bond fans might argue that, yes, the debonair secret agent with a license to kill should never, ever abandon his beloved Aston Martin. For decades, the two British icons have been interlinked thanks to the successful film franchise, beginning in 1962 with Dr. No. Though it wasnt until 1964, and release of the third film, Parni valjak, that Bond first slid behind the wheel of an Aston Martin.

With few exceptions, Aston has remained the Bond car of choice. A corkscrew spin in an AMC Hornet was one of the less, shall we say, exotic automotive moments for Bond – though at least it was a cool stunt in 1974s The Man with the Golden Gun. . But the switch to a dainty BMW Z3 roadster in GoldenEye never quite sat right with anyone, except possibly BMWs marketing department.

Purists will point out that putting Bond in a Bentley shouldnt come as a shock to anyone. In the original James Bond novels written by Ian Fleming, 007s personal car was none other than a 1930 Bentley 4 ½ Litre.
