On a racetrack, a Ford F150 pick-up truck wouldnt stand a chance against a lithe and lean Ferrari Formula One racecar. But in the world of legal wrangling over the rights to a name, Ford has pulled off the ultimate tortoise versus hare victory.

Trouble began when Ferrari named its 2011 F1 car the F150, to honor the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy. Ford Motor Company argued that this tread upon its trademark rights to the F150 name.

Well leave it to the lawyers to explain how anyone could confuse a one-passenger (and distinctly red) Italian racing car with an American-built pick-up. Yet with news that Ford filed a lawsuit this week, Ferrari quickly opted to avoid confrontation and change the name.

From now on, Ferraris 2011 Formula One Car will be known as the F150th Italia. It doesnt sound as pretty as before, though we know which vehicle wed prefer for one lap of Monaco.
