Danes General Motors in Toyota sprosti svoje prodajne rezultate za leto 2010. Čeprav oživlja videl GM 12 odstotno povečanje globalne prodaje to ni čisto uspelo pridobiti svoj položaj na vrhu. Toyota, kljub skromnejše 8 odstotkov povečanja prodaje, ohranila svojo prednost pred GM samo 28.000 vozila. Toyota prodajajo 8. 42 milijonov vozil v primerjavi z 8. 39 milijonov za GM. Volkswagen je tretje največje podjetje s 7. 14 milijonov prodaje, povečanje za 14 odstotkov v letu 2009. Toyota prehitela GM na vrhu 2008 po GM je bila svetovi največji avtomobilov 76 let. Kot je bilo pričakovano, je Kitajska postala največji trg za GM, kjer se proda 2. 35 milijonov lani, v primerjavi z 2. 2 milijona v ZDA. Even though a resurgent GM saw a 12 percent increase in global sales it did not quite manage to regain its position at the top. Toyota, despite a more modest 8 percent increase in sales, maintained its lead over GM by just 28,000 vehicles. Toyota sold 8. 42 million vehicles compared to 8. 39 million for GM. Volkswagen was the third largest company with 7. 14 million sales, an increase of 14 percent over 2009. Toyota overtook GM at the top in 2008 after GM had been the worlds largest automaker for 76 years. As expected, China has become the biggest market for GM, where it sold 2. 35 million last year, compared to 2. 2 million in the US. VW sold 1. 9 million vehicles in China in 2010, while Toyotas sales were a modest 846,000. Industry pundits say the battle to be the worlds largest automaker will be fought in China and India in the coming years, which puts GM and Volkswagen on a much stronger footing than Toyota. Being Number One though has its disadvantages — just ask GM and Toyota. In fact Toyota and GM have publicly stated they do not view being at the top as a priority any more.
