My quick take: Im very impressed. Its a great vehicle, able to take five of us comfortably in its three rows of seats on a long trip up to the Bay Area for my brother-in-law Chucks 50th birthday party. Going up Interstate 5, we cruised with the flow of traffic at 70-plus mph, but still got an impressive 20 mpg, the Durangos Hemi V-8 never feeling taxed in its duty. Whats more, the black leather interior had a very high-quality feel, as for that matter did the entire vehicle. Yes, the Durango is now built on a unit-body chassis thats closely related to (but longer than) the Jeep Grand Cherokees. But what it may lack in body-on-frame tow capacity it more than makes up for with dramatically improved overall refinement and fuel economy. When we arrived in Dublin for the party, all of us felt totally relaxed, like it was the shortest car trip weve ever made up there–a true testament to the impressive new civility of the Detroit-built Durango. My only complaint: At $46,825, the Durango Citadel is not exactly for the thin of wallet.
