I ett försök att sälja sina varor till marknader i västvärlden, Geely och deras dotterbolag Volvo har slagit sig ihop för att bygga en subcompact global bil som syftar till erbjudanden från Ford, Honda et al. Subcompact skulle vara exklusivt för Geely, och skulle gå efter konkurrenter som Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta, Toyota Yaris och Volkswagen Polo. Ankomst på Västra stranden skulle vara ett par år bort enligt Volvos VD Håkan Samuelsson. Geely och Volvo är att utveckla plattformen på sitt gemensamma forsknings-och utvecklingscenter i Sverige, den andra av dessa projekt att utvecklas med det. Det huvudsakliga målet för detta projekt är teknik en subcompact som skulle uppfylla Västra säkerhet och kvalitet, vilket gör att Geely att få fäste på marknaden. Den svensk-biltillverkaren utvecklar också en kompakt plattform för båda sina varumärken att använda, och är väntat till slå till marknaden i cirka fyra år. Arrival on Western shores would be a few years away according to Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson. Geely and Volvo are developing the platform at their joint research and development center in Sweden, the second such project to be developed there. The main goal for this project is engineering a subcompact that would meet Western safety and quality standards, thus enabling Geely to gain traction in the market. The Sino-Swedish automaker is also developing a compact platform for both of its brands to use, and is expected to hit the market in around four years. German supplier Brose Group will supply components for the compact, along with mechanical components for Geelys own lineup, through an alliance made between Geely and Brose this month.
