Model year 2007 and 2008 Toyota Camrys are the cars under review after 59 complaints were submitted alleging intermittent loss of assisted braking, resulting in increased stopping distances. Two accidents have been reported as a result of the issue, but there were no injuries. The bulk of the complaints have been received over the last eight months, and most of them allege that the car experienced delayed brake operation or increased pedal effort. About 40 percent of the problems occurred when the vehicles were travelling over 40 mph. NHTSA has opened a preliminary investigation, the results of which will determine whether or not a recall of the vehicles will be necessary.
