One of the most eagerly anticipated new car launches this year is the upcoming rear-drive sports car being developed jointly by Toyota i Subaru. Many are fans hoping it will be the spiritual successor to the original, much loved, rear-drive Toyota Celicas (pre-1985) and the rear-drive FE86 Corolla (1983-87).

The first FT-86 koncept was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2009 and Toyota will unveil a second concept at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show in March.

Toyota has released a teaser photograph of the FT-86 II concept peeking out from a garage door. The nose looks less aggressive than the first concept so we presume it is really close to what the production version will look like. Indeed, the caption says it will give the clearest indication yet of the final design for Toyotas next sports car. It also says the new concept embodies the companys reborn passion for driving sports car.
