For the first nine months of this year, Metropolitan traffic police recorded 8522 accident and found 1 059 092 traffic violations by drivers. From January to September the traffic situation (compared with the same period last year) slightly improved: the number of accidents decreased by 2.3% the number of accidents involving pedestrians decreased by 7% (3283 up 3054), including involving children 9.8% (675 cases). Result: killed - 529 people (6.7% less than 9 months of 2010) wounded - 9852 person (2.7% less than in 2010), including 704 of the child (10.9% less than in 2010). The most common accidents in the capital remain: the collision of vehicles (43.4 per cent of the total number of accidents) pedestrian (35,8%). Main causes of road accidents: failure to comply with traffic sequence (1219 cases) mismatch speed specific road conditions (1106 cases), violation of traffic light signals (more than 400 cases) violation of right of way pedestrian crossings (650 cases). Reduced by 10% the number of "drunk" accident (163 cases), and 16% fewer accidents due to travel into oncoming traffic (fixed 219 cases). The Moscow police, using photo, video and audio materials provided by the residents of the capital, from the beginning of summer were able to prosecute 50 drivers.
