Forty seems to be the magic number as auto manufacturers once again see customers becoming interested in fuel economy, once again.

Auto manufacturers with cars in their fleet that can deliver 40mpg are touting the fact as the price of a gallon of gasoline creeps up to $4 a gallon.

EPA released official figures today for the 2012 Ford Focus SFE and it matches the Fiesta SFE and Hyundai Elantra with a highway economy rating of 40 mpg. Of course, several hybrids and diesels get as good or better mileage, but 40 mpg in a regular gasoline powered car is pretty impressive.

In order to maximize the Focus economy, the engine is mated with the latest dry-clutch six-speed Ford PowerShift automatic transmission. Ford tvrdi the transmission alone helps to reduce fuel consumption by up to 9 percent compared to a traditional four-speed automatic.

The Ford Focus SFE package also includes 16-inčni steel wheels with aero wheel omoti, active grille shutters, high-efficiency tires, four-wheel disc brakes, rear spojler and a special SFE značka.

The Focus SFE employs full active grille shutters, which help optimize aerodynamics by using vents to control airflow through the grille to the cooling system and engine compartment. If air is required to cool the engine, the vents are opened. If no airflow is needed the vents are shut, contributing to significantly reduced aerodynamic drag.
