BMW has begun selling a new M Performance exhaust system for the M3 Coupe, Sedan and Convertible.

Designed with road and track in mind, this new exhaust is very expensive, priced at $4374 plus installation. Nevertheless, its a very cool piece, crafted from an extremely heat-resistant and lightweight chrome-nickel alloy called Inconel, which is very corrosion-resistant. While there are no claims about increased power, reduced backpressure allows the M3s 414-bhp V-8 to produce an even more powerful sound. More important, the exhaust weighs 40 percent less than the stock systems, a savings of about 20 lb.

As you can see from the photo, the M Performance Exhaust includes perforated inner pipes and polished titanium tips, which are laser engraved with the M logo. An OE level of fit and finish is a given.

Hear, and see, the throaty new M Performance Exhaust in action on the Lime Rock track below.
