Aerodynamics trailers: zone of turbulence
To avoid an increase in fuel consumption when driving with a trailer it is impossible, however, to minimize losses of us are quite capable.
To begin with, we will find out what the appetite of our "locomotive." "Lada-Priora" on a good horizontal highway at a speed of 60 km/h is content with 4.7 litres of gasoline. At 90 km/h, it needs to be 0.6 \ l more. (By the way, is it a weighty argument in favor of a non-forward movement?!) Now that the checkpoint is defined, we will see how the new "function" is given to the trailer. In the classic case, without the Tent, an empty trailer at a speed of 60 km/h adds one litre per 100 and 90 km/h to 1.5. This will be the second point where we estimate fuel consumption by our car train with different tents on the trailer. When moving even with an empty trailer, it is useful to install a low tent on it or to remove the rear board-saving 0.5-1 litre of fuel for 100 km. The claim is reduced to almost half a litre in any regime. Everything is logical: the air, falling into an undisguised trailer, is added to its back wall, and the curry behind it becomes intense. A total whirlwind of the feed of the train is eating more energy-and it's slowing him down. Hence the first conclusion: that there is no naked drive, even if the trailer is not loaded, it is irrational. In this case, however, there is a hidden savings reserve: if the trailer is empty, the rear of the trailer can be removed and secured either on the floor or in an open position parallel to the road. (Of course, the lights and the plate number plate should not be closed.) The measures are confirmed: the appetite of a train without the hind board is even modest than with a low tent! However, at the opening we do not claim-the fuel consumption is proportional to the amount of power spent, i.e. aerodynamic drag, multiplied by speed. The longer the length of the plume of outraged air behind the train, the greater the loss. But these disturbances also depend on the size of the "troublemeers"-in this variant a lot of the rear board is added. Without it, the air is dripping from the floor of the trailer with less curing. The vehicle fuel consumption is increased by more than 2 litres. Recall that the tow truck in our experiment performed "Prior"-hatchback-a machine with good aerodynamic qualities. If there was a large sedan in her place, our trailer would be in its aerodynamic shadow-in the "air bag"-and the size of the tent would have had little impact on the total cost. ACKNOWLEDLET: The cargo being transported does not occupy the entire space under the tent, the aerodynamic fabric is the most profitable. The upper part is tilted to the bead. The measures show that the skewers save up to one third of the liter. The effect is greater than the speed. There's no good till 60 miles an hour. It is true that when the cargo is displaced, the stability of the road train is deteriorating. But the tent racks are arranged symmetrically-nothing prevents the back of the bounce back and the centre of gravity of the load closer to the front. Well, what does that have to do with fuel consumption? It turned out to be nothing! Econominess is as good as the "firm" position of the tent. Once again, the laws of aerodynamics-the results are not contradicted. If the trailer was moving in front of the tractor in part, it would have generated its own, much more powerful, hind hind-slices. And the skis, aimed back, slightly smoothed the air in the air. So, at the speed we have adopted, both provisions of the tent in terms of gasoline consumption are equivalent. RESERVES FOR THE SAVINGS OF THE trailer is manned by an aerodynamic tent, bearing in mind that it can be installed in front of the front-it will not be any worse. And when being towed by a car with a bodywork station wagon, it's even preferable.
