Normal driving may lead to very severe penalties if you are a woman in Saudi Arabia. To ten lashes Jeddah Court sentenced a dweller of the Arab countries for violations of the ban on driving a car, working from 1932 onwards. It should be noted that this case is not the first. In June 2011 the year in Saudi Arabia for similar misconduct detained four girls, which pledged to never sit behind the wheel, and in July 2011, the country held protests women activists demanding from foreign companies to suspend the sale of cars, while a ban on driving for women will not be filmed. Recently King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia signed a law giving women the right to vote in upcoming local elections in the year 2015. Many had hoped that some of the liberalization will follow in other spheres of life, including the right to drive vehicles, but that never happened.
