The Chronicle: the birthday of the founder of Volvo
120 years ago, on August 13, 1891, one of the founders of the automotive company Volvo Assar Gabrielsson was born. Assar Tornwald Nathaniel Gabriel (13. 08. 1891-28. 05. (...) (...) Assar's father once replaced a dusty manager of a brick factory with a small farm Sp? nnnefalla in the district of Tibro in southern Sweden. He was trading in eggs, and it suddenly went up the hill. The family was able to afford life in Stockholm, where Assar graduated with honors and entered the Stockholm Higher School of Economics. Assar taught such a time as Walter Ernst Harlock and Ely Heckscher. In October 1911, Assar Gabriellson received the highest grades in five disciplines and was even awarded a diploma course on "How Sweden organized the production and sale of alcoholic beverages". In addition, Assar received the highest score in the Russian language, which was particularly felt by his father, who imported eggs from Russia. Assar also mastery of his mastography and from 1911 to 1916 served in the office of the lower house of the Swedish Parliament. Knowledge of the Russian language was a great surprise to Bolsheviks, when in the mid-1920s Assar Gabrielsson arrived in Moscow with the inspection of the confiscated Svenska Kullagerfibriken (SKF) stud factory. From 1916, this firm began the rapid career development of a young ambitious economist. The SKF sales director, Mr. Gabrielsson, has already arrived in the RSFSR. The first model of the company with the supporting body, PV444, in the factory yard, 1950. Perhaps communication in one language has contributed to the fact that in our country the abbreviation SKF has become synonymous with this bearings. One of the first Volvo-model with the closed body PV4, 1928, the turning point in the biography of Assara Gabriel became his meeting with engineer Gustav Larsson. He came to SKF in 1915, a year before Gabrielsson. However, their real cooperation started a lot later, and in a rather unusual case. It was in 1924, on the Ivanov day. In the case of Stockholm (the SKF office was located in Gothenburg), Gabrielsson looked at the restaurant "Stuehof" with cancer. Larsson, remarkably, had the same intentions on that day. And there were two colleagues on the previous work. At first, they silently took out the crayons in which the engineer Larsson knew well-his older brother owned a cancer shop in Wetland. And when he was soaked, Larsson began to share with Gabrielsson the plans to build a real Swedish car-strong, reliable, and compatible. The founders of AB Volvo Gustav Larsson and Assar Gabrielsson (right) have certainly contributed to the fact that Gabrielsson caught fire with this idea and tried to interest it in the SKF leadership. Larsson at this time has drawn the draft out of the children's own sons. The SKF's leadership probably did not share so much with the addiction of new-found companions to cancer, so in 1925 the project was rejected. However, thanks to SKF, the car has been named Volvo, which means "I am learning!" in translation with Latin. This name was reserved for the one-handed, radial ball bearings for the introduction of balloons created in 1915. These bearings were short-lived, but the good brand was patented for everything that could theoretically be rolled: bikes, tires and cars. And the stamp came in handy. A factory on the island of Hisingen under Göteborg, where on April 14, 1927, the first car of Volvo, the first car model of Volvo, was built on the personal funds of Assarah Gabrielsson, who broke up with SKF in 1926 to take up the position of managing director of the new enterprise-AB Volvo. He was in office until his resignation in 1956. Four years prior to this event, Gustav Larsson resigned from the post of technical director. The two companions continued to enter the company's supervisory board for a long time. Assar Gabriellson died on May 28, 1962.
