The French company PSA/Peugeot-Citroen, now the second-largest car maker in Europe (after Volkswagen), intends to strengthen its position in the world by increasing sales of its cars in China, Latin America and Russia. Last year, PSA's total sales totaled 3.6 million cars, which made the world's seventh largest concern, but separately the Peugeot has a ninth place, and Citroen is 13th. By 2015, PSA is going to brand the Peugeot brand in the 7th place, promoting it in markets such as India and Iran, where Citroen is not offered. At the same time, the company is increasing its presence in China at the expense of the Sietroen. In 2010, the PSA market share in China was only 3.3 percent, along with its partner Dongfeng. By 2015, it should reach 5 per cent and by 2020 it should reach 8 per cent. For this purpose, a second joint venture with Changan for the production of light commercial vehicles and models from the new Citroen DS brand, originally DS5 and DS4, was established. In 2010, Citroen sales in China amounted to 370,000,000 cars (about 870,000 Citroenes sold in France). In 2011, it is planned to increase sales in China to 450,000 cars, and subsequently to 1.6 million by the time when annual consumption of cars by the Chinese domestic market will reach 20 million units. For Latin America, the share of PSA in local markets should increase from 5.4 per cent to 8.0 per cent. There are no specific figures for Russia. The rate will be placed on the medium-sized models for the first buyers in developing countries. In general, the concern promises further growth of its range for at least one new car per year. The reduction is not the case-the latest withdrawn model will be the Peugeot 1007. The new Citroen DS has become the engine of the company's image. Last year, 64,000 DS3 cars were sold, and the plan for this year was 80,000. With the DS4 and DS5 models, there is an intent to sell 40,000 and 50,000 units, respectively, and in 2012 to increase the total sales of the DS models to 170 to 180 thousand units. The DS extension is possible due to the emergence of DS4 (similar Racing DS3), a DS3-based convertible model, a new DS2 start-level model, and a new DS6 flagship model, but the final decision to start their production has not yet been made. More specific plans-the start of the 2012 issue of Mitsubishi ASX-based crossover, and the main-updated Peugeot 207. In technical terms, the concern is to reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. In 2012, the company plans to bring up to 1 million vehicles with CO2 in the exhaust of less than 120 g per km run (last year, such as Peugeot and the Sietroen were issued 720 thousand units). In the future it is planned to achieve such an indicator of carbon-dioxide content in the exhaust as 90 g per kilometre run. It is also planned to introduce the "start-stop" system in all cars, regardless of their price level, to save up to 15 percent of fuel. By 2013, the number of such machines should reach 1 million. Plans to invest about 5 percent of profit in research and development, PSA, however, do not intend to make large bets on hybrid and electric models. Although the company plans to work on the world's first diesel hybrid Citroen DS5, it will receive a Peugeot 3008 in the future. Electric Peugeot i0n and Citroen C-Zero this year should be implemented in the amount of 3,800 units each, but by 2015 their production should reach 100,000-taking into account the third model, which is planned for 2013. According to the company's executives, the market of electric cars is not too broad and most is artificially maintained by governments of different countries in the form of subsidies to buyers. In France, the grant is Euro5, 000, and Germany does not have such support. Therefore, even by 2020, the share of electric vehicles in the market will be no more than 3-5 percent. More economical and environmentally friendly than now, diesel and petrol motors are more likely to attract buyers, so they are making the main bet. PSA is no exception, and in the near future it intends to offer to the purchasers energy-efficient three-cylinder petrol engines with a volume of 1.0 and 1.2 l-such will pick up the updated Peugeot 207.
