Start of production of the Nissan Leaf EV in the United States may be delayed
Hideaki Watanabe, Nissan ' s vice president for zero-emission vehicles production, reclaims production of the Japanese concern after the earthquake in Japan could shift the start of Nissan Leaf in the city of Smyrna (Tennessee, US). Production was expected to start here at the end of 2012. Meanwhile, in both the United States and Europe, a queue of those who want to buy the "green list" is gradually being formed. It was proposed to pay symbolic $99 for the right to take a seat on this queue. However, instead of identical electric vehicles, they have so far received only notice of supply delay, since the "leaves" are produced only in the earthquake hit of Japan. There was no confusion: one buyer was asked to be rewritten to the queue, while others kept their places, but the timing of the electric car's wait was prolonged for weeks. It is necessary to say, and the manufacturer himself did not expect such attention to its products in the US: it has been made up to 22,500 preliminary orders. The production of Nissan Leaf is only 50,000. units per year. Originally, it was planned to supply $20,000 to Americans. by the end of this summer, but now at best, 6,000 or 7,000 units. For reference: to date, only about 7500 Nissan Leaf has been sold, about 2,000 of them in the United States and 5,000 in Japan. Incidentally, the earthquake in the latter, paradoxically, has fuelled an interest in electric vehicles-because the electric power supply in the affected areas has been established faster than the supply of motor fuel (!!). For charity, Nissan even offered 66 "electric leaves" to the most affected prefectures for the movement of medical personnel and government employees whose cars were left without fuel. According to Mr. Watanabe, electric vehicles were taken very well. Like GM with a hybrid Chevrolet Volt, Nissan expected to deploy Leaf sales across America in 2012. It is interesting that Leaf costs significantly less Volta: $32,780 versus 40 995. Both models have a "right" to a government discount of 7,500 dollars.
