Maserati reduces by 25% the production sedan Quattroporte and Ghibli in response to the falling demand. It is reported by Automotive News Europe with reference to Federico Belloni, the head of the trade Union of workers of the plant in Grugliasco, near Turin, where the Assembly of both models. According to him, the decision was taken by the head guide of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles; behind the original plan will be 4000-5000 machines until the end of the year.
In Fiat told us that prior to July, the plant switches to shorter hours of work: for every three working weeks, there will be one output, explained Bellona. He added that according to his calculations this year the plant in Grugliasco will not be able to collect more than 30 000 cars.
Recall that in 2014, the Maserati brand has sold 36 of 448 cars, and Ghibli (23 500 pieces) and CLS (9500 units) accounted for the lion's share of demand; the remaining 3500 car GranTurismo sport. Thus, if this year's production models, which are the bread and butter of the brand, will be reduced, Maserati will never be able to reach the target of 50 000 cars sold.
What can save the situation? In the medium term, certainly, the emergence of new models: the long-awaited crossover Levante, the new Alfieri sports car, the next generation GranTurismo. But without the demand for sedans some of these changes will not save the Italian Trident, so we are waiting for decisive action.
