Mark Smith: Caterham perfectly ready for the season

At the presentation of the new car Caterham F1 Jerez technical Director mark Smith spoke about the work on the project CT03...
Mark Smith: "CT03 - the first machine developed at our technical center in Lipide that was a milestone in the history of the team. The upcoming season will be the last in terms of existing rules before changing regulations on engines in 2014, so we decided to build ST based ST, rather than developing it from scratch, focusing resources on areas that allows you to make progress, and starting work on project cars for 2014.
Compared to the final race of last season in Brazil, where the team won the tenth place in the Cup of designers, we significantly improved the car. The most obvious change is lower chassis with a compact side pontoons, allowing to optimize the airflow in the rear of the machine. The diffuser casing of the engine, cooling system - this is a significant change, but there are improvements in other areas. This machine configuration we will use in Australia, and soon after the beginning of the season will introduce new front and rear spoiler and upgraded diffuser.

The new machine, which from the first day will participate in the tests in Jerez, has become not only an important event for Caterham. Based in Lipide we are completing the preparation of its own simulator, created using Dell software Alienware. This is an important asset that will allow us to reach the level of opponents and proves the longevity and severity of the plans of the team.
Personally I am very excited about the upcoming season and the challenge that awaits us. Regardless of available resources and budget, all teams in 2013 will be remembered about major changes in 2014, when the new rules may allow to achieve more significant progress. Our team is well-prepared for their fourth season in Formula 1, I am sure that we will have another interesting championship".
