Volkswagen will make compact car up! hybrid

Company Volkswagen will release a hybrid modification of the compact-car up! which will receive power from super saver car XL1, whose serial version will debut next month in Geneva, reports Autocar.

In the composition of the hybrid power plant novelties will include two-cylinder 800-CC diesel engine with a capacity of 48 horsepower, 27-horsepower electric motor, the DSG transmission with two clutches and a set of lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 5.5 kilowatt-hours, which will be installed in the rear part of the compact-car up!.

Mass base up! is 925 kilograms (130 pounds heavier than XL1), and the version of the model with a hybrid power plant will weigh about a ton. According to preliminary calculations, the average fuel consumption of new items will be about three liters per hundred kilometers, and a cruising range of electric - 50 kilometers.
